In addition to providing insight into the functioning of a large corporation and how they view Minority Suppliers the UPMC Supplier Diversity Program gives Minority Suppliers the opportunity to provide input as those aspects of a Supplier Diversity Program that both positively and negatively affect the minority community. The program has given the minority suppliers in general and our company in particular information on how to be a benefit to major corporations.
The UPMC Supplier Diversity Program has helped my Company grow capacity, experience and ability. Because of this program it has allowed us to work on larger more technical projects. The General Contractor is reluctant at times to give smaller companies especially diverse ones an opportunity to quote and engage on larger projects. But due to UPMC taking the time to listen and understand the challenges of smaller businesses and getting to know them as people in the community it has greatly increased awareness of inclusion on all projects. Thus it is by them being an owner and wanting to do the right thing and making a place at the negotiating table for smaller companies they have opened many doors for us as we continue to grow and collaborate with them and their diversity department.
